Healing Tonsillitis & Sa'oot

Healing Through Prophetic Medicine in Islam

Healing Diseases

Tonsillitis & Sa'oot

Prophet’s guidance on treating Tonsillitis and administering the medication orally

In the Sahihain, it is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam said: "Hijamah and marine costus are among your best remedies; and do not torture your children by pressing their uvula to cure tonsillitis".

In addition, in the Sunan and Musnad (by Imam Ahmad) it is narrated that Jabir said, The Messenger of Allah came to Aishah Radi Allaho Anha and saw a boy with a bleeding nose and said, What is this?’ They said, “He is suffering from tonsillitis or a headache", He said: "Woe unto you! Do not kill your children. Let the mother whose child is suffering from tonsillitis or headache scrub Indian costus (aloes) with water and then administer it to the child through the nose". When Aishah Radi Allaho Anha ordered that the prescription be followed, the boy was cured". [Ahmed, Al Hakim].

Abu Ubaidah said, "Tonsillitis is a blood related throat irritation". It was said that tonsillitis is an ulcer that appears between the ear and the throat that especially afflicts young boys.

Administering scrubbed aloes (Qust al Bahri) through the nose helps against tonsillitis, which is essentially composed of blood related phlegm that accumulates in the bodies of young boys. Costus or Aloes tighten the uvula and pull it up to its proper place. Aloes (Qust al Bahri) help against other hot ailments. The author of AI-Qanoon stated that Costus, Yemeni alum and marjoram seeds help against tonsillitis.

The marine costus mentioned in the Hadith is the Indian aloes, particularly the one whitish in color, and it is sweet & has many benefits. Before, the people used to treat their children who suffered tonsillitis by pressing the uvula and sometimes affixing an object to the uvula. Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam disallowed this practice and guided the people to what is better, more beneficial end easier for the afflicted children.

Administering the medicine through the nose (Sa'oot) involves either simple or compound remedies that are ground and dried. Then, when warranted, the medication is administered through the nose of the afflicted person while he lay on his back and while his shoulders are elevated so that the head lay back. In this position, the medication would reach the head and extract the disease by sneezing.

Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam has praised using this method when there is a need that warrants it.

Furthermore, Abu Dawood mentioned in his Sunan that our beloved Prophet used this method (Sa'oot) himself.

Hulbah / Fenugreek

Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam was reported to have visited Sa'ad bin Abi Waqqas Radi Allaho Anh once when he was ill while in Makkah and he asked that a doctor be brought to examine him. They brought Harith bin Kaladah who examined him and said, ‘There is no harm with him, just cook some fenugreek with dates and let him eat them. Sa'ad was reported to have done that and was then healed.

Hulbah (Fenugreek) is hot in the second degree and dry in the first degree.

When fenugreek seeds are cooked in water, they will soften the throat, chest and the stomach. It relieves coughing, dryness, asthma, hard breathing and increases the sexual drive. It also relieves flatulence, phlegm, piles and the various accumulations in intestines. Fenugreek seed dissolves the phlegm from the chest and helps against gastric ulcer and lung diseases. Hulbah is used to heal the intestines, mixed with some ghee and Faloodah.

When five measures of fenugreek are taken as a drink, it will increase the flow of menstruation, and when it is cooked and the hair is washed with it, it will make it curly and will combat dandruff.

When the flour of the fenugreek seeds is blended with some vinegar and used as a bandage on the tumor of spleen, it will dissolve it. In addition, the woman who suffers from pain in the vagina due to a tumor will benefit if she sits in the water in which the fenugreek was cooked.

When it is used as a bandage and placed on hard / cold tumors, it will help dissolve these tumors. When its water is drunk, it will help against the pain in the stomach that results from accumulation of gaseous materials and will cleanse the intestines.

When one eats the Hulbah cooked in honey, dates or figs on an empty stomach, it will dissolve the phlegm that accumulates in the chest and stomach, and will help against coughing that accompanies such ailments.

Hulbah relieves urine retention and works as a laxative. When it is placed on the erratic nail, it will heal it, while its oil helps against cracked skin due to extreme cold (when it is mixed with wax). There are many other benefits for the Hulbah (Fenugreek).

Reported by Qasim Bin Abdul Rahman that Prophet Muhammad Salallaho Alaihe Wasallam said : "Seek the Shifa (healing) with Hulbah".

Some doctors stated, "If the people had knowledge of its benefits, they would buy it with its weight worth of gold".

Healing by Sugarcane

Healing Through Prophetic Medicine in Islam

Healing by Food

Sugarcane Qasab As-Sukkar

The word "SUKKAR" (sugar) is mentioned in a Hadith as under :

Narrated by Tirmizi that Abu Hurayrah Radi Allaho Anh reported that Prophet Muhamamd Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam said: "In the last decades of this world, there will be some people who will intermingle their Religion with worldly desires, & when they will come out of the houses, will wear the soft leather of sheep, their tongues will be sweeter than SUGAR, & their hearts will be like a wolf's heart, Allah Says for them " Are they deceiving Me or they are trying to overpower Me? I Swear that I Shall send such disasters & calamities upon them; that will even surprise their soft-hearted".

Sugar is a relatively new substance that the people of old did not mention or even have knowledge that it existed. This is why they did not describe its role in various types of drinks or cures. Honey, on the other hand, was extensively used as a drink and as a medicine.

Sugarcane is hot and wet, helps relieve coughing and dissipates the excess moistures in the body, prostate and chest it is a laxative, induces vomit, is diuretic and stimulates semen production.

Affan bin Muslim As-Saffaar said, "Those who suck on sugarcane after eating their meal will find comfort for the rest of the day". When sugarcane is broiled, it relieves the roughness in the throat and chest. Yet, it causes the accumulation of gasses that would be pacified when sugarcane is peeled and washed in hot water.

Sugar is hot and wet. When sugar is boiled and skimmed, it quenches the thirst and relieves coughing. Sugarcane is not good for the stomach that suffers from bile. The side effects of sugarcane could be pacified by mixing it with lemon water (juice), Naranji (bitter orange) and peeled pomegranate.

Some people prefer sugarcane to honey because it is not as hot as honey and because it is milder on the stomach. This is not fair for honey, which is much more profitable than sugarcane. In addition, Allah Has Made honey both a cure and a type of sweet. So how can anyone compare the benefits of honey and the benefits of sugarcane?

Honey strengthens the stomach, soothes the natural process, strengthens the eyesight and heals diphtheria when gargled, facial paralysis and Hemiplegia (paralysis affecting only one side of the body). Honey extracts and pulls excess moisture from the body, preserves the health, increases semen production, cleanses and decomposes the contents of the stomach. In addition, honey cleanses the intestines, fights worms and prevents septic repletion (over eating). Further, honey is a good type of food and favorable for those who suffer from phlegm and for old people. In short, no substance is more beneficial for the body as a food, as a remedy and as an ingredient and a preserver of medications, which In addition strengthens the stomach, than honey. There are many more benefits for honey. So how can anyone compare it to sugarcane, which does not have even a fraction of the benefits contained in honey?

Healing by Sha'hm - Fat

Sha’hm (Fat)

In Al-Musnad, it is narrated that Anas Radi Allaho Anh said that a Jewish man asked Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam to be his guest and that he offered him some barley bread and melted FAT.

In the Sahih, it is narrated that Abdullah bin Mughaffal Radi Allaho Anh said, On the Day of Khyber, a bag full of FAT was lowered and I took possession of it and said, "By Allah! I will not share it with anyone else". When I turned around, I found that Messenger of Allah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) was laughing and did not comment".

The best type of FAT is that taken from a grown animal. FAT is hot and wet but less wetter than Ghee. This is why when both FAT and Ghee are melted, FAT hardens faster.

FAT helps against throat roughness, it represses and causes rotting. To neutralize the harmful effects of FAT, one should use lemon, salt and ginger. In addition, goat's FAT constipates more than any other type of fats, while Billy goat's FAT is more decomposing and helps against stomach ulcers and is used as an injection to relieve Excoriation (the rubbing away of skin from injury or disease), and (spasms of the bladder or anus).

We have found that fat from camel's hump is the most delicious, it is more tastier than butter & melts in the mouth so quickly.

Healing by Safarjal - Quince

Healing Through Prophetic Medicine in Islam

Healing by Food

Safarjal  Quince

Talha bin Ubaid Ullah Radi Allaho Anh narrated that I went to Rasullullah Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam & he had a QUINCE in his hand, Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam said to me: "Take it O Aba Zar, this (Quince) makes the heart strengthen, makes the breath pleasant and relieves (removes) the burden of the chest".
(Nasaai)

Quince is cold and dry, constipates and benefits the stomach. Sweet quince is cold and dry and is somewhat mild. Sour quince constipates more than sweet quince and is colder and drier. All types of Safarjal quench the thirst, stop vomiting, help produce urine and constipate. Safarjal helps against stomach ulcers, hemoptysis (spitting up blood with cough), diarrhea and nausea. Safarfal prevents the ascending of gaseous material when one eats it after the meal. In addition, the ashes of washed Safarjal leaves and stems are similar to zinc in benefit.

Consuming Safarjal before the meal constipates, while consuming it after the meals softens the stool and helps the digestion process. Eating excessive amounts of Safarjal harms the nerves and causes painful constipation. Safarjal helps extinguish the yellow bile of the stomach.

When the quince is broiled, it will become softer and milder. When one removes the pips of the quince, stuffs them with honey, dips them in a paste and then broil them under hot ashes, they will become very beneficial.

The best way to eat the quince is broiled or cooked in honey. The seeds of Safarjal help against dryness in the throat, the windpipe and several other ailments. Its oil stops sweating and strengthens the stomach. Sqfarjal jam strengthens the stomach and the liver and relieves the heart and the soul.

تجم الفؤاد means that Quince pleases / strengthens the heart, & opens the coagulation (if available).والطخاء للقلب is meant for darkness, like clouds or a sand storm cover the clear sky which is then un-seen, so Quince will do the same job for the heart, it will remove the blockage & the heart will be clear & healthy Insha'Allah.

Allah Said in Quran:

"In them (both) will be fruits, and date palms and pomegranates". (55:68)

Ali Bin Abi Talib Radi Allaho Anh was reported to have said: "Eat pomegranate with its pulp, because it coats the stomach".

Sweet pomegranate is hot and wet, good for the stomach, and strengthens it because of its being a mild constipating agent. It is good for the throat, chest and lungs, along with relieving coughing. The water (or juice) in the pomegranate softens the stomach and is a nutrient for the body. It digests quickly because it is light and produces heat along with some air in the stomach. It helps increase the semen production and is not favorable for those who have fever. Pomegranate has a special quality, that is, when one eats bread with it, it prevents it from being spoiled.

Bitter pomegranate is cold and dry and constipates mildly. It is in addition good for overheated stomach and helps produce more urine than the other types of pomegranate. It softens yellow bile symptoms, relieves diarrhea, prevents vomiting and is slightly tarry. It in addition stops the heat in the liver, strengthens the organs, helps against bilious shaking, heartaches and the ache of the tip of the stomach, it helps the stomach, rids it of excrements, extinguishes the excessive yellow bile, and benefits the blood.

When pomegranate’s juice is extracted and is cooked with some honey until it becomes like an ointment and used as eye drops, it will clear the yellow color from the eye and will dissipate the thick wetness. When it is placed on the gingival (gums), it will help against the rashes that appear on the gingival. In addition, pomegranate juice extracted with its rind will work as a laxative and will rid the body from septic bilious moistures, along with helping against short-term fever.

As for sour pomegranate, its qualities are in the middle between the two other kinds we mentioned, although this kind leans more towards being sour. Pomegranate seeds that are mixed with honey will alleviate septic finger and malignant ulcers. Pomegranate flowers help to heal wounds. It is said that if one swallows three pomegranate flowers each year, he will be immune from Ophthalmia (conjunctivitis) for an entire year.

Healing by Thaum - Garlic

Healing Through Prophetic Medicine in Islam

Healing by Food

THAUM (Garlic)

As explained by Ibn Al Qayyam, it is clear that garlic as a regular food should be avoided & is beneficial only as a medicine whenever required.

Garlic is similar to an onion (with bad smell) & it is mentioned in Hadith that whoever intends to eat garlic, he should kill the odor by cooking it well.

Some food containing garlic was brought to Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam, & he sent it to Abu Ayyub Ansari Radi Allaho Anh. The Sahabi requested that Ya Rasool Allah, you dislike it for yourself & sent it for me? Our Prophet replied, "I talk & whisper to the Almighty LORD to whom you do not".

Garlic is hot & dry in the forth degree, creates heat in the human body, its regular use causes dryness, but is beneficial for cold natured people, similarly, garlic is good for a person having a phlegmatic nature & the one who is in danger of catching Faalij (CVA). Garlic dries out the sperm, opens the clogs in stomach, takes out the gases, helps in food digestion, it can cause loose stools & it is a diuretic, it works as an antidote against inflammations & bites of poisonous insects.

If ground garlic is applied as a poultice on areas bitten by snake / scorpion, it will suck out the poison. Garlic keeps the body warm, expels out the phlegm, cleanses the throat & nullifies the bad affect of changing water (especially for a traveler who has to drink water from various sources), garlic is fantastic for old cough, it is consumed as raw, cooked & roasted, removes the chest pain caused by coldness, & expels out leech / insects from the throat

If ground garlic is mixed with vinegar, salt & honey & applied on a broken tooth, will fragmentize the tooth & will easily take out the tooth from gums, & the same mixture is also helpful for killing tooth-ache. If ground garlic is taken with honey water, it kills phlegm & the intestinal worms; garlic mixed with pure honey & applied on BARAS (Leukoderma / Vitiligo) reduces depigmentation of the skin.

But garlic has many bad properties as well, it causes headache, weakens the brain & vision, creates sexual debility, causes excessive thirst, increases yellow bile & spoils the odor of breath, its bad odor will go away if rue leaves are chewed after eating it.

Healing by Teen - Figs

Healing Through Prophetic Medicine in Islam

Healing by Food

TEEN (Figs)

Benefits of FIGS as explained by Ibn Al Qayyam; Figs (along with vinegar) are one of the best cures for SPLEEN diseases:

The Sunnah does not mention figs as they did not grow in Hejaaz area or Madinah al Munawwarah. FIGS require a climate different to what is essential for growing the dates.

ALLAH Has Sworn by FIGS in His Book because of its tremendous benefits & uses.

Figs are hot and either dry or wet. Best kind of figs are the white kind when they are ripe, they cleanse the sand that accumulates in the liver & prostate & serve as a preventive substance against poisons, figs are more nutritious than all other types of fruits & help relieve the roughness in chest, throat & trachea. Figs are good for liver & spleen cleansing, purify the phlegm that accumulates in the stomach & provide nourishment for the body. Yet figs make one more susceptible of lice if eaten in excess.

Dried figs have a high nutritional value & they strengthen the nerves, it is the best to eat dried figs with almonds & walnut. Jalinus (Galen) wrote that figs when eaten with walnut & rue prove of an antidote against poisons.

Abu Darda Radi Allaho Anh narrates that someone sent a dish of FIGS to Prophet Muhammad Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam (as a gift), & he asked his companions to eat them, he ate them by himself & said that "If any fruit from the paradise could come in this world, it would have been FIGS, because fruits of Jannah (paradise) will be SEEDLESS, eat the figs as it cures PILES & is beneficial for the GOUT", but we are doubtful if this Hadith is authentic.

Pulp of figs is so wonderful, creates thirst among hot-natured people & quenches the thirst which results by phlegm, very affective for cough, it is a diuretic, opens & clears the clogs of liver & spleen; it is a cure for kidney & bladder infections.

When figs are eaten at empty stomach especially with almonds & walnut, they clean the entire digestive system, but figs should not e taken with heavy foods, white mulberry has the same benefits as that of figs but mulberry is less nutritious.

Figs are a miracle.
